| How it works | Native incretin hormone secreted by intestinal L-cells. Binds GLP-1R on pancreatic beta cells, activating adenylyl cyclase → cAMP → PKA pathway. Rapidly degraded by DPP-4 (half-life ~2 min), making native peptide therapeutically useless without modification. |
